Housecall Pro says 0 imported. What should you check?

A zero item result usually means the import never produced usable rows. Do not keep retrying the same file. Check the structure, mapping, required values, and the source export first.

Start with the import result, not the spreadsheet size

A file can contain hundreds of rows and still produce zero usable imports if the importer cannot read the structure, required fields are missing, or the source columns were mapped incorrectly. First confirm that the file is a supported CSV or Excel workbook and that the real header row is being used.

Check the required fields

For service rows, Housecall Pro documents Industry, Category and Name as required import fields. For material rows, Category and Name are required. A workbook that looks complete can still fail if those values are blank, shifted into the wrong columns, or mapped to the wrong destination fields.

Check the mapping

If the file opens in the Housecall Pro import wizard, verify that each source column is mapped to the intended Housecall Pro field. A perfectly valid spreadsheet can still produce a bad import if Name is mapped to Description, Category to the wrong field, or a required column is skipped.

Compare the file you intended to import

If the file was edited after an export, compare it with the original before changing more cells. A dropped column, blank identifiers, shifted headers, or an unintended bulk edit can be easier to spot by comparing before and after than by scanning the whole workbook manually.

A safer retry workflow

  1. Keep the original export untouched.
  2. Validate the edited CSV or Excel file before upload.
  3. Confirm required fields and mapping in Housecall Pro.
  4. Use a small test import before applying a large update.

ImportFix can scan one file locally in your browser or compare an original export with an edited version before you retry. Start with the Housecall Pro price book checker.

FAQ

Does 0 imported always mean the CSV is corrupt?
No. The file may be readable but still have missing required values, incorrect mapping, or a structure that produces no usable rows.
Should I keep retrying the same file?
No. Recheck the structure and mapping first, then use a small test import after making a targeted correction.
Can ImportFix guarantee the next import succeeds?
No. ImportFix checks supported file issues and risky changes, but Housecall Pro can still reject a file for account specific or unsupported reasons.

Edited a price-book file already?

Compare the original and edited CSV/XLSX first, then scan the final file for supported import issues. No account or Housecall Pro API key required.
